Bridging differences through language For a Peaceful Community, Country, and World

"J'taime te Amo", "Jeg elsker deg", "Ani Ohivet Othka", "Muyot tu biem", Ichadaw ko imo", "Kabayaan ko s'ka", "Gihigugma ko ikaw", "Iniibig Kita"...

Different languages...
different cultures...
different races...
and yet evolving within one world...

These words sound differently yet convey one definite meaning and that is "I LOVE YOU". Love in any language, so to speak. But how can people from different cultures who speak different languages understand each other? The answer is simple. We call it the power of language.

Language, as it is commonly and simply defined, is a tool for communication wherein man is able to express his feelings and ideas. It is one of the means for effective communication which enables man to materialize his inner thoughts. Man, even in his solitude, knows and understands that he needs language, may it be verbal or non-verbal, to bridge the wide chasm that keeps him away from other people and even from his environment. He needs to build a bridge for him to be able to come across and reach out to others. This bridge is called language. As an adage goes, "no man is an island", there is a need for man to move, mingle and interact with other people for him to achieve his ultimate goal in life.

Language, no matter how diverse it is, has a way to patch up the missing link between man and his world. It has its way to bridge people's differences simply because language is one essential tool that connects us to all the peoples of the world.

What life would have been without language? Certainly, the world would have been in chaos and life itself would have been in utter disgrace. It is through language that we make other people understand our feelings, desires, thoughts and ideals. And, as it is man's ultimate goal to attain peace, he strives to materialize this dream. However, can peace be possibly attained in the absence of language?

Even from the very start, language plays a very essential role in the creation of the universe. Language was already there. It co-exists with the Creator of the universe. Harmony in nature was achieved, beautiful creations were created out from the language that God used. Perfect masterpiece was displayed with the use of language. The Biblical point of view of the origin of language tells us that "in the beginning was the Word and the word was with God" and it is confirmed in one of the books of the Old Testament that says everything that God said was created. He created Ex-nihilo, meaning, out of nothing, but with the power of His Word. When He said, "let there be light!" and there was light! and the rest of God's creations were made with the use of language - except one special creation, MAN. It is the same language that God used when He blessed Abraham and Noah, Moses and Joshua, and other Biblical characters, prophets and disciples. God used language when He commanded Adam and Eve to multiply in number and the same language when He drove them out from the Garden of Eden because of disobedience. My point is, God Himself knows the importance of language, that is why, language is part of His beautiful masterpiece.

However, we can never equate the value of God's language with the human langauge because God is always Holy and everything in HIM is holy including His language while man's language is distorted because of sin. Biblically speaking, there is a need for restoration of man's language.

Moreover, when we take a glimpse at out cultural background, our ancient people have used language as their way of reaching out to other people. Despite diversity in cultures, differences in races and tongues used in the past, unity was still within reach. There was understanding among different cultures and tribes. Peace was there.

Is it still possible for the present generation to attain peace? as we can see, peace seems to be very elusive! Is there a way to bridge the gap that exists between our Muslim and christian others? we should not forget that our glorious past heritage has valiantly fought and defended our country for the cause of peace and freedom. they shed their blood to attain our life-long awaited dream, peace! is there ever an answer to that? Yes, there is! It's language! although language may not be a cure-everything medicine for peace, but it can break the walls - the barriers that hold us apart. Let us not allow ourselves to be trampled down by our own ignorance. Let God's wisdom teach us to promote peace through language, a means of effective communication. When there's conflict, let's negotiate it properly and let language be one appropriate resort, a language that melts down differences and promotes peace; a language that brings us closer to ourselves, to other people, and to God, above all.

Lastly, let us promote peace by committing to this famous line, "let peace begin with me". it is imperative that peace should emanate from each individual.

How so?

I should begin using language properly with tact, blessings and love for effective communication, one that - bridges, builds, edifies and restores relationships.

May God's beautiful language overflow from His heart to ours so that we can boldly say, "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me".

2.An Biblical example of the importance of using language is the accident happen on the tower of Babel, people where cursed because of there ambition of leveling with God, they are punished by changing their language that leads into chaos. 1.For me in my own idea, the significance of language as cited in the essay is that without the help of language there will be no communication to be happen because as it was written in this essay LANGUAGE is a tool for communication wherein man was able to express his or her feelings and ideas and without LANGUAGE there will be no peace to be happen and that will turns into chaos...

2.I can compare this essay to another BIBLICAL story to the story of where the different language had began, in the tower of babel. In the essay i've read that without a unity in language there will be a chaos to be happen like what happen in the tower of babel when GOD confused their mind to each other by changing their language. In SCIENTIFIC i can sight an example like using one of the programs in computer(specifically in JEEP Lab.) when you need to repeat what the speaker says and you says different the speaker will rejects what youv'e speak and that means the program dont understand your language...

3.If i can play the role of GOD for just one day to improve human communication in the light of all the crises that beset our land / people is that i will make an event which makes the people to read more on bibles which makes them to renew their sinful languages...

1. Imagine yourself as the head of a certain project and you have randomly picked foreign men to work for you and these men do not have a certain language in common. Isn't it hard to work as team? Not only you consume more effort to understand each other, you consume more time in a accomplishing your goal. Language, to simply explain, is clearly important within our lives as it functions as the main core of human communication.

2. The Holy Bible itself portrays the importance of language. The bi4ble was originally written in Hebrew and Greek language. The bible was the most visible form of communication between the people and their God. We wouldn't be able to understand the bible if it wasn't translated to english.
In an emergency situation where one person tries to ask for help from another person but cannot understand effectively the situation may lead to a disaster.

3. If i were to play God for a day, I would grant the human mind with 3 things.
First is ATTITUDE towards being Open-mided, second is the higher capacity of understanding and lastly the Patience to take time to listen.

I firmly believe in a quotation that states "It takes courage to stand up and speak, and it takes just about the same to sit down and listen" Language is communication, and communication requires a speaker and a listener. Not everyone understands the importance of language because some never really gave interest.

1. Language as defined, is a bridge from one people's life to another. By this, people can express his/her self by any means necessary because language can bring out the voice of the heart.
2. For Biblical, the incident in the tower of Babel can do so. Back then, The Creator change the way people understand language due to their sins for wanting to be leveled with Him by the used of the tower. That changes brings destruction both for The Tower and the people who created it. Without language, a total Chaos may occur.
For Scientific, an every day activity is a good do. Language helps people to communicate to each other for each of their individual means.

1.Significantly, language is the cure for mental wellness in order to escape from confusions or chaos among human beings but it doesn’t mean that it is the ultimate medicine to achieve “PEACE and HARMONY”. It’s just like curing an ill person, without the help of appropriate medicine, whether it is herbal or medicinal drug, one cannot escape from it, unless if God’s mysterious way cures it, then, it will be heal. Hence, one of our medicine in order to have a good and healthy relationship with each other is that the use of “Language”.
2.All the words that were written in the Bible starting from Genesis to Revelation which was before written in Greek language but was then translated to English language by some Biblical Scientists represent the importance of language. The original writings as well as the translated one in the Bible are best examples to it.
3.If it is possible to happen, I will do such things by giving them EMOTIONAL STABITY and MENTAL ALERTNESS. With these two important things, I know people can be very much motivated to fully understand each other’s emotion, feelings and ideas through proper speaking and listening with understanding.

“PEACE”, as what language is much concerned about based on the essay written above, is hard to find, indeed. Language alone cannot cure the war and chaos we are experiencing in the society, nowadays. Thus, I should say that “PEACE and HARMONY”, we desired and dreamed of, can be only achieved in three possible ways: first, spiritual guidance from God through prayer; second, the conscience within us which is to be a contented one; and lastly, proper utterance of one common language. Thus, if and only if contentment really exists in humanity; confusion, chaos and even war will never be experienced in the society with the help of God and of one common language.

1 language and its significance is incomparable. we use it for understanding through communication, despite the barriers of every dialect we use. in every situation we all use dialogue to speak to people we encounter in everyday life by using our own languages. it is not just by mere communicating one's thoughts and ideas but also a tool for bridging to friendship, cultural ties and other manly relations. we opt to develop ourselves in certain way and to achieve that is keep to do but language in a way gives hope and chance to commit that goal.
language also is the basic foundation in doing something on our lives.
2 in the biblical history the tower of babel is the most controversial story, the importance of language there is very big because as build the tower they work freely and united, they want to achieve the kingdom of god the heaven but according to god that is not a solution or way to go to my kingdom, the people are sleep at the night then god make some trick to change their mines and language because of his anger, afterwards as they wake up when they speak and command the people did not understand what they say so until chaos occurs they are not able to finish their tower, the language their is very important because without the language we could not understand each other our own thoughts and feelings we cannot express it to others because they don't understand if what we are trying to express to them without the language the unity and peace is not there all and all people could be crazy.
3 if i were to play god i would rather choose or create only one language that all people could speak and understand so that there will be no more misinterpretation and mishaps as human as we were. and that everyone could understand our point and deliver it orderly.
